An Autumn Wreath

I made a wreath this week out of anything I could find around my house. I've never made a wreath before so wanted to have a go at making one. Now, if I lived in the countryside I would've made a wreath that was big and sturdy so I could hang on my front door. I have a small porch but as I live in the town nothing would last long. Items would be damaged/stolen/chucked about- sad really but it's true! So I went for decorating my lounge door and I really, really like it.

I printed out all sorts of different patterns and colours and cut out a few flower and leaf shapes. When I was happy with how I had arranged them on my wreath (which is 2 cardboard circles cut out and stuck together by the way) I stuck them all down with glue, made a hole in the top and found some suitable ribbon from my stash,

I wasn't totally satisfied so I rooted around my draws finding some odd buttons which looked perfect for my fall theme. Screwing up some orange tissue paper to fill a small gap, I made these mini pumpkins. I think they finish it all off nicely.

To make the plain lounge door just that little bit more special, I cut out left over paper, cut off a short piece of string and made some mini paper bunting with the words 'Happy Fall' on the tiny flags.

What do you think? Not bad for paper and cardboard I don't think and just the first step in the prep for the Halloween party my daughter is really looking forward to.

A Colourful Farewell!

Next week my younger sister leaves for university, so we figured it would be nice to throw her a little good luck/goodbye party. I chose to go with a bit of a theme (not entirely) of bright colours. I pinned balloons to my ceiling, made a colourful cake and put my new bunting up which added something really special to the celebration (and makes my kitchen look more 'me' again)

Opinions?

The first thing I wanted to do was to give my sister her gifts. I used the cross from the necklace I found in my local charity store to make a nice, simple necklace for my sister to hang up somewhere instead of wear as she isn't particularly religious but I wanted to give her something which I felt would be nice to have in her room. I like to hold my cross sometimes and I also keep a prayer book which is easier for me these days.

I also gave her a letter writing set slightly different from the one I have bought myself (I just love snail-mail) so when my mail comes through I'll know exactly who has written to me: my lovely little sister!

So, all in all it was a great day. We had a laugh taking photos (they never did turn out right. We were way too busy having a laughing fit!) My sister loved her gifts including a webcam the rest of the family bought for her so she can keep in contact via Skype while we're all so far away.

So that's it. Come Saturday morning she'll be snoozing in the back of a car with Mum at the wheel and Dad on the map all packed up and ready to start her next chapter. A very good chapter I hope.

Pinaddicts! Button Heart

I sort of lost the joy of crafting this last month but hopefully with my next project I'll get it back. I didn't really know what to do this month but found a button craft on Pinterest that I thought I'd give it a go.

For this craft I needed:

- Buttons

- White card

- A photo frame

- Some glue

First of all I drew a heart lightly on the card as a rough guide to make sure I didn't end up with a complete fail of a heart! I decided to go for a more unique shaped heart to make the picture look a bit more funky.

When all the buttons were stuck on using some PVA glue I wrote some words at the bottom which I also saw on Pinterest but I seem to have deleted the photo! Anyway, just so you know the words are not my idea they are a total copy.

This is now in the entrance to my house with my post and home phone. People see it when they walk out and I've already had some nice comments. Sorry about the picture quality this month folks!
