A Day in Weather Beaten Penzance

Unless you've been living under a rock (it would have to be a darn big one too) you would've seen the rain, heard the gales and watched the news which has been showing many areas completely ruined by the recent bad weather.

Penzance has been hit pretty bad in the last couple of weeks. Here's a photo of Newlyn Green which holds a lot of childhood memories for me.

Last Thursday, Jay and I decided to head over to Penzance for a day out. We didn't go to Newlyn, we just walked along the prom where it was bitterly cold. The tide was low but you could see in a few hours the waves would be just as bad as the previous nights. We had Little A with us so naturally stayed behind the wall which separates the prom from the road.

We then looked over to see the houses, their gates and front doors piled with sandbags. That's when we saw the hotel we have had many dates and family parties in. The most memorable one our wedding reception. It's currently closed, sodden carpets stacked outside, windows smashed high up and inside is pitch black. It's no 5* palace, but it has precious memories for us.

Then we visited the Jubilee pool. It's a bit of a state, obviously overflown because the pool uses sea water. There's lots of debris from the great walls scattered over the floors and no doubt littering the floor of the pool itself!

Visiting the harbor was nice because the water was so calm it was hard to believe that in a few hours waves would be crashing against the walls outside of it. Sadly, that had not managed to escaped the damage either.

All this for one boat!

Some of the other buildings had lost a few tiles by the looks of it and the Scillonian was safely hidden in the boat yard.

It was kind of sad looking at all the damage and I was definetly grateful for living where I do. Before we left Penzance we tucked into some chips from the best chippie I know, Fat Fish chip shop. Little A got a free cone of chips which cheered us up.

We did have nice day but I hope this weather disappears soon before it does anymore damage to our beloved counties and towns!

It was a bit of a mixed day yesterday. Weather wise the sun was shining and it felt quite warm which was a considerable contrast to cold and wet the day before. We had a pretty miserable night, well I did, Husband has a knack of sleeping through anything which I'm very jealous of! The children were up twice, I think the noise outside disturbed Little Man a bit but he soon settled off with a kiss and a cuddle.
I was kept up till 4am thanks to some drunken tiff or something like that, I really have no desire to spy on these people and find out. Once he left the youngsters came out to create a bit of their own noise for half an hour before scuttling off as well.

So as you can imagine I wasn't too pleased to be greeted by Midge waking me up at 7.30am no matter how reasonable that time may be. Husband left me to have a lay in but I quite fancied us all going out as a family. Unfortunately we ended up having a minor disagreement setting my mood right back. We also decided that perhaps swimming wasn't such a great idea and opted for Heartlands instead.

As luck would have it, Heartlands is right next door to Comet. Why is this luck I hear you ask? Well, thanks to a rather substantial milk spillage the previous day our microwave decided it had enough of our family and refused to work anymore. Not even a fuse change could tempt it. Another bit of luck was having received a £50 gift voucher for Comet from some family members which we're really grateful for! We let Midge pick out the microwave on the way home and I have to say she chose a nice small, stylish one.

We all walked to Heartlands which was a bit tiring being that all of us were a bit worse for wear. We had a good look around the outdoor and indoor market, found a nice hair band for Midge for 50p but not much else. We then went to Tesco for a spot of lunch. I was a bit fed up at this point. Midge was getting an earache, Little Man wasn't interested in eating his lunch which I had just spent £2.50 on and a lady in the que bitched about us taking too long in the children's section. We heard her well enough but never really bite back. What's the point? If you have nothing nice to say just don't bother saying anything surly? We sat in front of them as well which was annoying, I was in a much better mood when she left!

We finally got to Heartlands where we had a quick walk through. The children played on the grass, the sun held out and Little Man had his first dip in the running river. I have to say that I am glad we did decide to go out and about. The fresh did us some good and the children had fun.

Midge's earache came out good and proper when we returned home so she went to bed all dosed up and warm while Husband and I caught up on our trashy television and I started making my sisters going away present which is proving difficult with limited funds!

Shattered after a long day. But still smiling.

Here Come the Weather Blues!

I don't know if you're like me but when the weather really turns nasty I find it a real struggle to get out of bed. I'm pretty glad school is starting soon because it'll be a 7am wake up which this house hasn't seen in a long time. We all like our sleep but on a rainy, cold day we are all even more reluctant to get out of our pits. Alright, the children still wake up and are quite happy to play while Husband and I have a few extra minutes.

The last two days however I have really not wanted to get up! We're in the last 2 weeks of the summer holidays and I have no motivation to do anything. I'm also on a bit of a come down which most brides suffer from. I've gone through all of that planning and now I'm left with a void. I've got a few things to be focusing on so when I stop being such a lazy beast I shall be doing the following:

  • Planning more country learning days. We had our America day a couple of weeks ago and that went down really well. We have plans for a Chinese Day, Polish Day and of course a British Day (I can't resist!) just one more which is proving tricky..probably France though as it is a language actually taught to our children!
  • My little sister is heading to university at the end of September so I want to plan a good send off. We're thinking of getting back massages and lunch and I'm making her a little gift to go away with. I'm going to ball my eyes out when she leaves!
  • It's my birthday in October so that's something to look forward to and of course before that Midge is heading off into reception- very exciting. We still need some uniform but we're waiting until last minute for some bargains (lets hope this risk pays off and we're not left with no jumpers in her size!)

Lets not forget Christmas isn't all that far away either! The pennies are tighter than they have ever been right now and we're putting money back to visit some family in December which will be lovely but it's also making me think that now I'm not storing tonnes of wedding stuff I can replace it with Christmas stock! (Shhh don't tell husband!) What will be really great is when I get my Park vouchers in October!

For now though I'm going to sit in my PJ's, watch Celebrity Masterchef and play with Twitter my 2 babies!

Our Wet and Windy Weekend

Just to be totally British I am going to go and say 'have you seen this weather? Of course you have, it's bloody awful, absolutely whizzing it down out there and if Little Miss doesn't cling on for dear life she swears the wind will take her. Luckily we haven't HAD to venture out and if you have I feel for you I really do.

However, saying that I was terribly bored on Sunday, so bored I even contemplated taking Little Miss swimming which she quickly vetoed pointing out that it was in fact raining so much we could swim outside. When i said it would be warm in the pool she didn't buy it. Damn. Outsmarted again.

I later turned to Other Half and within 20 minutes we were all kitted up for our battle with the rain and wind. Little Miss and I headed out first to grab some seats at the restaurant with Other Half following closely behind. We didn't get too wet, Little Man was obviously the dry one out of the lot of us and I think he was rather smug about this, little monkey

I treated us all to a nice lunch which made a change as Other Half is usually the one parting with his cash on family days out. Of course I help out but he usually pays the bulk amount so it was nice to treat him as well. I had beans, eggs and chips, not healthy in the slightest but totally necessary on such a wet and miserable day.

Yummy!
Below is a photo of our view during lunch. Glorious isn't it!

Little Man is at this highly frustrating stage (for both him and me to be honest) where if it's on a spoon it isn't quite good enough. He will plunge his hands into my breakfast cereal, try to nick his sister's dinner and if you try to put a spoon near him he'll bat it away or try to feed himself! Needless to say we spread butter on his tea cakes and let him do the rest before he helped himself to one of Daddy's onion rings and then my fruit salad dessert!

Trying real onion rings for the first time.

Soo happy
Little Miss is not fun when it comes to food. She is one of the fussiest children I have ever come across and has been the same since she was 2. I'm of the opinion that Other Half is slightly food phobic to be honest and I think she's picked up some of his anxiety. Bean juice (as they call it) sends them into shocking fits of refusal (yes Other Half as well!)

Eating some ice cream for pudding after doing well with her dinner
Very unusual!
After all that the last thing to do was have a nice hot chocolate before heading back out into the weather. I love pictures of hot drinks, they just make me feel warm without even touching a drop!

We did in fact have a lovely day. We left at half 12 and didn't return home until after 4 by which time it was almost Little Man's bedtime. I'm glad I hadn't prepared a roast because I was pretty full as was Other Half after his burger and onion rings. I wasn't very well after all that though which is a shame to end the day like that. It wasn't a bug, more like a wake up call! I've been eating so much rubbish my body can no longer deal with it. Time to get serious with this healthy stuff.
Watch this space!

Dear Weather,
So, so nice of you to drop by all sunny and fresh. I can feel spring is on its way to Cornwall if no where else. The sun has brought out some daffodils which look lovely on the walk to nursery and it always lifts my mood to see light pouring through my windows even if it is still nippy on the outside!
Always grateful, Hannah

Have a good weekend everybody and don't forget if you fancy it, link up your post at 3 Bedroom Bungalow where Kat is waiting to read your weekly thoughts/ramblings anything really I presume!
