Craft Prompt Week 1

I've decided to join Let them be smalls' new link up every month where I'll be sharing a craft I create either by myself or with the children based on the weekly prompts shown below:

For week 1, the prompt is ribbon. I was going to make a ribbon wand with the children but neither of them seemed very interested as they tired and what with going back to school this week, I thought I'd have some me time and make a little something for my home.

I popped to The Works and found some pretty ribbon, birds and a wooden heart. I tied the ribbon around the heart, replaced the boring rope hanging with matching ribbon and placed the birds along the top. The birds have been super glued to the wood to ensure they stay on and i'm really happy with the results of this very simple craft.

Do Not Disturb!

You see this? I don't know why I made it because it doesn't do sod all. Neither of my children can read well enough to take on board a single word and let's face it, even if they could they'd completely ignore it and waltz on in.

I hang this sign on my bedroom door when I fancy a little mid afternoon nap. Not sure why I think I'm going to get away with it because I never do!

I hang it on my bathroom door when I need one of those long soaks in a hot bath covered in bubbles. I can't lock the door in case we have a 'I NEED a wee' situation so I have to keep my fingers crossed that no one notices I have slipped off...Except that doesn't happen because both my children are of course programmed from birth to sense my want for solo bath times and my Husbands bowel has seemingly been programmed in much the same way.

I've been foolish enough to hang it in the kitchen too. I thought maybe I'd get to sneak a few of those tasty biscuits I'd been eyeing up all day. Fool. You should always wait until bedtime! My children are there in a flash, my homemade sign flying in the air behind them as they rumble their greedy Mother and spoil my secret face stuffing moment.

So you see, I made one Of these signs and I'm not sure why..A part from joining in with the ever fabulous Story Of Mum I guess i was feeling optimistic for the future of my alone time?
What would your sign say? Would anyone take any notice?

What A Week!

My my what a week! I'm sure most parents are feeling pretty happy that it's finally Friday (this week has gone so slow for me) I am ready for the weekend! Tomorrow we are having a lovely little party for my sister (whose blog you can check out here) she's off to university next week so I thought we needed to have a little 'send off' for her. I've gone with a 'rainbow' theme. Not so many rainbows included but more like bright colours.

Anyway, for a little re-cap, Midge has just finished her first full week of school and she has loved it. We've had a certificate for settling in so well, made a new best friend who is very quickly becoming like another limb and already been placed 'on the cloud' for leaving class without telling the teacher and then fibbing. I may have to do another post entirely on this subject!

The days have felt pretty long but Midge is already settling in well and her teachers seem pleased with her. She's still pretty stroppy as the evening goes on but hopefully as time goes by her body will get used to these longer days of fun and learning and eventually my little angel (I wish) will return.

Little Man had his first pair of wellies this week (big, blue pirate ones no less) which he just loves to stomp around in. I'll be sure to post those photos up soon. I have managed to get out and do a bit of what I call 'scavenger hunting' this week in my local charity shops and have two items I want to share with you. First is this not so nice necklace (if you like it fair enough but it's not my thing)

Why buy it then? I hear you ask. Well, I'll show  you why I bought it:

Isn't it lovely? I'm going to pop her on some silver chain to wear around my neck. I have wanted an item of jewelry like this for a long time and when I saw this just hanging there added to this chunky necklace I had to have it.

There are also lots of lovely beads I can use to make bracelets and anklets, not mention this beautiful cross which is also on it. 

The second item I wanted to show you is this beautiful teacup I found surrounded by all sorts of ugly mugs (real mugs- not people) I had to have it! My plan is to fill it with wax and make a tea cup candle for my Gran as a Christmas gift. I'm also going to make her some earrings and soap. What do you think?

It's even got a cute tassel!

As for now though I have to get back to baking. So far I've made 3 cakes to sandwich together with thick icing and jam, I let the husband decorate (it is now resembling some sort of creature from Monsters Inc.) but it's creative and after my marzipan disaster I think it looks better to be out on the table!

I've also got a bunch of balloons to blow up and hang from the ceiling (talking of ceilings, my cupcake bunting has been made so that's also going up tonight!)

Hopefully I'll get a chance to blog tomorrow.

Photos From The Garden

I haven't been out with my camera for a while. I haven't felt like it to be honest.
I wish I was stuck still in January where my creative juices were flowing like crazy and I was so happy but times have been a bit tough (hectic!) with wedding plans and remembering all sorts of life's other essentials I've just had my creativity stunted.

I often feel a bit funny going out with my camera espicaially my bigger one. I'm still getting used to people looking at you as if you're a bit nuts when you whip a camera out to photo a building, a bird, a flower, the sky whatever has caught the eye but i'm sure it's something i'll learn not to give two hoots about.

Today though I ventured out into my back garden, camera at the ready to see if there was anything out there I could shoot. What do you know? There was! Yesterday a large purple towel of mine had blown down onto my flower patch and after lifting it up the period of one nights damp and dark had given way to a few rather odd looking mushrooms. Before removing for safty purposes I had to grab a few shots. After the mushrooms you couldn't stop me! Enjoy...

I saw my Sweet Williams looking worse for wear but this seems okay. I did find a rather tiny slug having a nibble so had to send him on his way! I love catching water on plants and I love this shot because of the different shades of green.

I like how the edges have been caught here. I don't really know what it is but I really like this shot.

On my fence there are few of these rusty looking objects. I love the pattern that has formed over time with the rusting.

Using a 'Super Macro' mode I managed to capture such detail in the keyhole on my back door. I am really pleased with this photo.

Finally I saw a redundant looking plant pot and decided I rather liked it. My camera did too.
