Our Summer Holiday Break

So! The summer holidays have been and gone and on Tuesday my little ones went back to school. Over the summer we had a good mixture of being away and doing our own activities. The children have had their own days out and we've had some rest days too. In this post I wanted to share what we got up to, in a nut shell of course!

We kicked off the summer holidays in a rather wonderful way with our cousins wedding. Everyone looked amazing and we all had such a lovely time celebrating with the happy brides. Here's some photos from the wedding which the children enjoyed. I just loved the whole set up!

Day Trip #4 Marazion Beach with The Family!

I am fresh from the beach (actually I'm fresh from the shower after washing all the sand out of my hair and lagging my legs in after sun) but I have had such a brilliant day I couldn't wait to write about it. The Mini Cupcakes are chilling out in the front room after a long day of fun so I thought I'd grab a couple of spare moments to record this memory.

We piled in the car with Mum and Pop this morning and headed to Marazion to meet my sister and her boyfriend. After parking up we headed to the shop for 2 much needed ice creams from Jordan's cafe and then headed to the beach to set up our beach camp for the day.

St. Michael's Mount

I didn't bring any swim gear with me such is my anxiety about swimming in the sea but when I saw it this morning, all calm with a few waves and glimmering in the sun I knew I had to go in. The leggings came off and the over sized t-shirt my Mum brought with her went on and we both waded in. I took the plunge and it was so, so good to be in that water after years of not going in. I've been so cautious about the sea and lately there have been so many tragic accidents it makes you a little nervous but I definitely learnt not to hold myself back so much with my fears. I actually said as I swam it felt good for my soul and I stick by that, I feel amazing this evening!

We had a lovely picnic, enjoying Mums chocolate cake and my Jaffa cake that I made yesterday. We had yogurts and sandwiches, the usual stuff before buying some postcards and sweets then heading back into the sea to paddle with Midge and Little A. They both made a friend at the beach actually so for an hour they were digging holes and making castles while I got to lay down and relax. That's what I like about them getting older!

We stayed for hours, didn't even realise it was nearly 5pm! It was just so nice to relax, not worry about anything and everyone had a really enjoyable day.

Trevaskis Farm in Cornwall

Hello all! We're on week 3 of our summer holiday here and so far it's going well (and fast!) Last week we made some trips to the beach and Lands End which I'll write about soon. We also visited Trevaskis Farm which is a farm very local to me that I love. They are all so friendly up there and you can stroll around seeing and stroking the animals, picking fruit and shopping in their farm shop. They love to educate children about the farm and about where our food comes from which is great.

We visited on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. First we had a nice walk around the farm seeing the sheep, cows, pigs and a cute little pony. We all chatted about our holiday so far and talked about the animals we saw (some people may have made jokes about each other when we visited the pig pen with lots of big mummy pigs snoring)

This pony was very cute

We then went around the farm to pick strawberries, oh my we picked a lot! I filled my box to the brim and enjoyed some 'taste testing' on the way round with my eldest nephew. We then met everyone else in their strawberry tunnel and realised we'd need to do something rather big and tasty with all our strawberries. When we got home though we were simply too tired and all left with our strawberry punnets still pretty full (I had strawberries for 3 days, fabulous!)

After the farm we did stop at Portreath beach for a drink outside and the children played happily on the sand for over an hour. They buried their feet, drew in the sand and made sand castles as best they could with no buckets and spades. If you're in Cornwall do visit Trevaskis Farm as its a really lovely place for all the family to enjoy and you can get plenty of fruit for such great value that's super fresh and delicious.

Summer Holidays Week 1 ~

I'm writing this from my sofa, all tucked up under a duvet with my fluffy hat on. I've wanted to blog much like I've wanted to take the children to get a hot chocolate, order my shopping, meet my cousins whom I haven't seen in a year, make playdoh and eat cakes. Yes I can still do all these in time but I'm more than a little annoyed that a whole week has been lost to tonsillitis. Bloody, horrible, energy sucking tonsillitis. I didn't even know it could make you so ill!

The children have been so good. I'm very lucky that both children like a lay in and Midge is very independent in many ways. She made sandwiches for her and little A to have lunch which was very sweet. I have been there I should point out, I'm not sure how I've stayed awake until my Husband got home from work but I have managed it!

Midge baked her own cupcakes with very little help from me. This was on Monday when my throat was just sore and not 'Argh! My throat is killing me' sore you know? They tasted amazing. Mostly they have been watching TV, playing on phones, playing imaginary games, playing with their toys and bickering (not too much of that though I must admit!) Mr B did take Midge to watch a football game yesterday and today he has taken both of them to see a friend and watch football again so they've had some fresh air!

I'm really disappointed I got so ill but I'm glad it wasn't later because of our planned holiday. Now I'm just hoping they don't get sick and I get better by the weekend!
