September at The Cupcake House

It seems strange that we've sped through another month and September feels so very long ago! I really can't remember it very well. It didn't start off great with the notice being given on our house but after some real searching, council help and a couple of weeks we got a new house in place.
Apart from the stress of properties and council appointments I need photos to remind me what we got up to! Here goes...

Before we knew it, it was back to school time which meant early alarms and saying goodbye to our lazy mornings! We had a yummy Costa a few days before we had to get back to our routine but the first day soon came around. Now I have a year 1 and a year 4, how can that be? My little ones posed in their uniform together and separately for our yearly back to school photo session in the dining room before we headed off. They have so far had a really good first term back.

Stress and the broken clothes horse//Costa date//Setting school alarms//Midge on her first day//Siblings together//Little Man posing//A little peak into our new place//Browsing the supermarket magazine//Pooch checking out the dull day view

There have been plenty of things going on at school to keep us busy and I kept myself busy too with lots of packing and freecycling. The children enjoyed Roald Dahl day where I sent them in with their own dream jars I made myself. They also made some at school but mine were definitely better haha! I visited the pet shop, not to buy any animals don't worry, I just like looking at the hamsters and we met a cool parrot who even said 'see you later' to us as we left! The weather really took a turn for the worse in September, a lot of our roads became flooded, some businesses are still closed because they've had to totally refit their shops. The Kinetic sand we received from my sister as part of our Wicked Uncle review was the perfect distraction from the rain and cold so we all spent hours on the floor of the dining room playing about.

Cookie munchies//Dream jars for school//Cute parrot in the pet shop//Dull weather and plenty of rain on the school pick up!//Chocolate,sand and a nail varnish pillow from Wicked Uncle// Kinetic sand// Lots of playing about with our new sand//I got fed up of plucking so bought facial razors. Rubbish name but at least I can get rid of hair much quicker!

I have spent a lot of time with some new friends I've made from Little A's class. It's so nice to chill out after the school run at Costa every now and then before heading home to housework and other jobs. I've tested Mustela's skincare range out on my families sensitive skin and we had fun trying our the different creams and using the bath milk! Little was really keen which was surprising given he usually hates creams! Oh yes, the new £5 notes came out. I was quite excited to get one actually although I'm not so keen on them and the novelty has worn off now!
As September drew to a close we had boxes surrounding us and were all sleeping in one room so we could clear the attic room and store boxes from upstairs in Little A's room (no big deal considering he was mostly in with me anyway!) We got our moving in date at the end of September so I started changing addresses and doing all the boring stuff early which has paid off!

Hot chocolate and me time//New skincare products to try//The new £5 note//Lovely photo of Roo and I//Looking out at the miserable weather//Some fab stickers I found in The Card Factory//Meeting up with friends and their dog for a nice peppermint tea//A lovely random act of kindness in happy mail form from a lovely lady

Soon it'll be time for me to catch up on our October! It's going so fast this year but this is my favourite time with Halloween, my birthday and of course, Christmas!

Reasons to Smile September

Can you believe it's that time already? Time to write what has made me happy and thankful over the month.

Winning a Harry Potter book set by dressing up as Luna Lovegood was a definite highlight! Granted there was no competition in the end but I guess that just proves what a fan I am! My books arrived yesterday and I am so, so, so happy!

The children started school and are loving it (thankfully.) It makes me so happy that I can kiss them goodbye and wave them off into their classroom. I find that it's me hanging around outside Roo Bear's class rather than him!

I have made some delicious homemade puddings this month. My favourites have been a chocolate pastry roll and a chocolate cake.

I had a wisdom tooth removed that was causing me grief. It's fair to say the whole process isn't fun but I am glad it's over with and I'm now pain free!

I have two new pen pals! One is from Germany and one is from America! I now have two in America which is great! I love writing my letters.

I have made real headway with Christmas planning. It may be too soon for some but with no savings due to financial hiccups before summer I have had to start planning and purchasing early this year. Luckily I love Christmas so this is not a chore for me and just something to feel pleased about!

My blog turned 4! I told everyone it was 5, I've never been very good at math! I can't believe I've been at this for 4 years now, if anyone knows me they know I don't stick to any idea for long so I am very surprised at myself! I love writing on Cupcake Mumma and am grateful to all my readers and for all the opportunities I've had so far.

The beginning of Autumn arrived this month and I'm so pleased as it's easily my favourite season. I'm enjoying the crunch of the leaves under my boots as I do the school run and the intake of warm drinks has also increased; yey for warm drinks! Although this week has actually been quite hot in Cornwall, what's that about? Or am I just wearing too many layers too soon? Answers on a postcard please!

I'd love to know what's made you smile this month and if you feel like sharing with more than just my comment box,hop over to A Cornish Mum and join her linky by clicking the badge below.

September Bucket List

Every month i see bloggers writing little bucket lists, lists of things they want to do or celebrate during the month. After reading many of these posts I thought it'd be nice to do one myself, so here's my list of things I would like to do this September:

Me

-Write to my penpals regularly. I'm hoping to have another international pen pal soon, several actually which is always exciting. I also have my regular pen pals that I love keeping in touch with but need to be more on the ball when it comes to to replying!

-Celebrate national chocolate day on September 13th (by eating some tasty chocolate of course!)

-Clear out the cupboard to locate our Halloween stuff.

-Take part in no spend September

-Continue to take part in The Great Bloggers Bake Off

-Start writing up gift lists for Christmas

-Work out 3 times a week

-Celebrate my 5th blogging birthday

Family

-Take first day back to school photos in our traditional way (this will mean getting up a bit earlier!)

-Go on a walk together

-Have date night with Mr B

-Watch Mr B play football

-Sort a day for Midge to have her friend over

-Book myself and Midges tickets for Hogwarts in the Snow. I know it's a no spend month but this was arranged ages ago with my mum and sister so I'm not counting it! We'll be going in November and very excited!

Ten Things to Smile About September

This week has seen the last Tuesday of the month come and go already, so it's time to link up with the lovely EmmyMom and share with you all the 10 things that have (and still are) making me smile this month.

1.Midge started year 1 and seems to have settled in really well. We're really working on her reading and getting there slowly but surly. She loves math and seems to be growing in confidence with every week that goes by.

2.We've lived in our new home for a month now and I love it. I love how quiet the road is and how it's a bit out of the way of town. I love our long garden and the freedom both children have here. I hope this is home for a long time!

3.My niece and nephews had their first sleep over here! First I had Midge and G for a girls night, then last week was a boys night in with Jay. I painted their faces the next day and they watched a local football match. I preferred the girls night so I'm doing it again this weekend!

4.My sister is back up country in the house she'll be living in for her 2nd year at university. As much as I miss her and Skype just isn't the same, it's exciting that she's doing something good for her future and I wish her all the best.

5.I sent off another Year in Gifts parcel yesterday. I can't believe I only have 3 months left to go before I have completed my little project. 2014 will be focused on Project Kindness which I'm really excited about.

6.Whittling down my Christmas list nice and early and preparing my annual Halloween party for Midge, A and their cousins has kept me busy and smiling all month. I love Halloween and being organised for Christmas makes me feel much calmer about the event and I look forward to it even more.

7. I'm a student again! I got some course materials through from the Open University and soon i'll be studying Arts and Literature. It's only an access course to see if university study is for me so I'm not sure what will happen. I'll just let it guide me.

8. We bought a new hamster! Her name is Maisy and she's adorable. A very welcome early birthday gift and addition to our household.

9. My Mum came over tonight to give me some much needed TLC after a long day. I've felt pretty rough this week and Little A has been sleeping awfully bad again which is such a shame (and so tiring!) She did the dishes for me and cooked me some tea which was great. I love my Mum!

10. My brother has finally flown the nest! He has set up home with some good friends and seems to be doing really well. His girlfriend is at university and has settled in good but I know he's missing her a bit. It'll be nice to have everyone around some time for a big family roast and that'll probably be Christmas time to be honest!

Do check out everyone elses reasons to smile this month when you have a moment. I'm also linking up with Michelle at Mummy from the Heart and her lovely link up Reasons to be Cheerful.
